--Exhibitions--


City Gallery Exhibit
The Village Artists, a group of artists who paint together in the Old Village of Mt Pleasant, will present their works collectively in Inspired. The exhibition will feature diverse styles and media - representational, abstract, still-life, figurative studies and landscapes in watercolor, oils, pastels and acrylics. Participating artists include Margaret Connell-de Ruyter, Jane Hart, Ann Marie McKay, Lorie Merryman, Ryoko Miller, Faye Sullivan and Ginny Versteegen. The public is invited to attend a free reception hosted by the artists on Thursday, December 5, from 5:00-7:00pm. Musical entertainment will be provided by pianist Steve Jacobs.

National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition
The eighth annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition FY13/14 is currently installed at the stunning North Charleston Riverfront Park. The eleven month exhibition features nine established and emerging artists displaying imaginative and thought provoking large-scale sculpture. Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among ten acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, playground, and children’s play fountain. Organized and presented by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.

Children’s Theatre
Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth presents Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus. Francis P. Church’s famous newspaper reply to an inquisitive little girl is imaginatively brought to the stage in this fast paced show that pays homage to the classic holiday films of the 1940s. A reporter must follow leads to find proof about the existence of Santa Claus, realizing in the end that believing is proof enough. For grades K-8.

Adults ages 18 and up will focus on form to expand painting knowledge using visual references selected by the teacher. Students must bring their own materials: paints, brushes, canvases, easels (if use of table is not preferred). Registration closes one week prior to day of workshop.
Fee: $28 per workshop or $125 for series of 5 workshops

City of North Charleston’s Christmas Festival & Parade
This annual City event is a holiday gift to the community. Families, friends, and neighbors share the joys of the season through delightful entertainment, a holiday market, children’s activities, carriage rides, festive food and decorations, thousands of twinkling lights, visits with Santa, and an evening parade. Park Circle, the Felix Davis Community Center, the surrounding traffic circle, and major thoroughfares are lined with lighted snowflakes, Christmas trees, and magical holiday scenes. Christmas Parade begins at 5:00pm immediately followed by tree lighting by the Mayor and Santa in front of the Felix Davis Community Center. Ample parking is available on the islands around Park Circle.

2014 North Charleston Arts Festival Participation Opportunities
National, regional, and local artists and performers in the areas of Music, Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts, Photography, Crafts, Media Arts and Literature are welcome to apply to participate in the 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival, May 2-10. This annual nine-day celebration of the arts provides over 30,000 residents and visitors with an array of free and moderately priced performances, exhibitions and activities that take place throughout North Charleston and the surrounding area. In addition to the Artist Application, local performing artists may also consider applying for the Opening Processional, which has kicked off the Arts Festival’s Main Event festivities for over ten years! Processional participants include groups dressed in brightly colored outfits and costumes, volunteers carrying giant puppets, banners and other crafted props, jugglers, dance troupes, and local performing groups. Participants parade around the Convention Center Complex into the North Charleston Performing Arts Center Auditorium where the celebration continues with a Community Groups Performance Spotlight, featuring performances by pre-selected groups. 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival Design Competition
South Carolina visual artists are invited to submit entries for consideration as the official design of the 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival. The selected design will become part of the City’s Public Art Collection and will be featured in all advertising and promotional material, including thousands of program booklets, hundreds of t-shirts, and print & broadcast media. The winning artist will be awarded $500 and will be recognized in special press releases as well as during the Artist Reception of the Festival. There will also be an opportunity for the artist to exhibit original works at the North Charleston City Gallery during the 2014 Festival. Applications will be available on November 15 and can be downloaded at NorthCharlestonArtsFest.com/apply.

2014/15 National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition
The 9th annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition will be installed at the stunning North Charleston Riverfront Park from May 2014-March 2015. Sculptors from across the nation are welcome to submit an application for participation. Up to 15 imaginative and thought provoking outdoor sculptures are juried into the eleven month exhibition and compete for cash prizes totaling up to $16,250. Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among ten acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, an oversized sandbox and children’s play area. 2014 SC Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition
The 13th annual South Carolina Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition will be on display at the Charleston Area Convention Center (5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC 29418) from May 2-10, 2014, during the North Charleston Arts Festival. Fine craft artists and artisans from across South Carolina are welcome to submit an application for participation. As the state’s only fine craft competition and exhibition, objects juried into the exhibit may compete for cash prizes totaling up to $6500. 2014 Wearable Art Exhibit
Designers and wearable art artists from across the nation are invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Wearable Art Competition & Exhibition, a component of the 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival. Organized and presented by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department and juried by award-winning and nationally exhibiting textile artist, Torreah “Cookie” Washington, this unique opportunity offers emerging and established designers a showcase to exhibit their inspiring designs, wearable art garments and accessories of all styles. Our goal is to present innovative and wearable work of the highest quality and to provide a forum to share our enthusiasm for an exploration of techniques and materials. Wearable art garments in all styles are welcome, including garments, hats, handbags and accessories. Garments for both men and women are encouraged.
