Staff members of the Golden Harvest Food Bank (GHFB) recently visited SRS to pick up donations contributed during the annual SRNS food drive. SRNS employee monetary contributions alone will enable Golden Harvest personnel to purchase food worth $161,000 for their clients. AIKEN, S.C. – Recently, the Department of Energy’s managing and operating contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC (SRNS), donated $20,500 in cash and more than 8,000 pounds of food during its annual food drive for the Golden Harvest Food Bank. The SRNS food drive is one of the food bank’s largest, local fund-raisers.

“We’re pleased to support Golden Harvest as they strive to end hunger throughout the Central Savannah River Area. With this donation, the employees at SRNS have demonstrated yet again their desire to continue to provide relief for those in need,” Dwayne Wilson, SRNS President and CEO.

Wilson added that a significant percentage of the company’s large workforce also volunteers time and effort to support many United Way member agencies throughout the greater Aiken-Augusta area.

Travis McNeal, Executive Director, Golden Harvest Food Bank, was pleased to receive the checks and food. “The poor economy has added an extra burden to our organization’s goal to feed those in need, especially the working poor who, just a few years ago, did not need our services,” said McNeal. “SRNS’s contributions greatly help us and always exceed our expectations. We appreciate the generosity of our friends at SRS.”

For every $1 dollar donated, Golden Harvest can provide $7.88 dollars worth of food to someone in need. The total SRNS monetary contribution will enable Golden Harvest employees to purchase $161,000 of food for their clients and partner agencies.

Founded in 1982, Golden Harvest Food Bank is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to fight hunger by feeding hungry adults and children. Serving more than 30 counties in Georgia and South Carolina, the food bank has local warehouses in Aiken and Augusta.

More than 14.2 million pounds of food passes through Golden Harvest Food Bank’s warehouses to more than 530 partner agencies, including: soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters for abused women and children, and other nonprofit charities such as day care centers, senior citizens programs, and group homes for the disabled.
