The Real Reason Behind The Shutdown

It’s a sad day in America when Tea Party Republicans in Congress can shut down the country and shut down folks’ lives because they want to say “gotcha” Mr. President. Since House Republicans could not shut the President up, they have decided to shut down the government and hurt the poor and so called “middle class” because there really isn’t a “middle class”. You are either rich or poor. The middle class has lost their footing during the eight years that former President George W. Bush was in office and the past five and a half years under President Barack Obama because he failed to allow the Tea Party Republicans to hold the country hostage. It’s alright for Congress to hold this country hostage but their motto is the “The United States do not make deals with those who hold Americans hostage”. Sounds like hypocrisy to me. The Republicans have refused to work with the President. They would rather shut down the government, a move that would hurt millions, than to do what they were elected to do.

The Republicans has had an axe to grind with the President since he was elected the first time around and when he was re-elected, they just could not take it. They pinned their vexation on the issue of the Affordable Health Care Act that they purposely named the “Obama Care”. When has this country tied a law into the budget approval process? We, the people, re-elected the President. We, the people voted for the approval of the Affordable Health Care Act? Wake up folks! It is obvious what is taking place in Congress. I don’t know about you but I am tired of the mess. We voted for those clowns that sending this country over a cliff. America is supposed to be the leader of the free world. Where are the leaders in this country? We need another Poor People’s March on Washington to call for the resignation of everyone that voted for the shut-down. When I say Poor People, I am talking about red, yellow, black and white. Just when we find ourselves peeping out from under the George W. Bush years of this country’s financial collapse, we find ourselves facing another setback.

While the Tea Party Republicans revel in their victory to shut down the government, there are real Americans out there who are going to suffer. You see, Congress is going to get their paychecks regardless of their antics to flex their power and shutdown the government. Their benefits are not going to be jeopardized because of the shutdown. They will continue to live high on the hog. They won’t have to worry about their next meal, their cars being repossessed or their homes foreclosed on because they won’t receive a paycheck. Their children won’t have to worry about going to sleep hungry. Children who are already missing meals and even malnourished will go to school and bed hungry. Seniors who count on their $16 a month food stamp checks will go hungry as well. Minimum wagers who work their butts off to provide just basic necessities for their families may lose their jobs. Mortgage holders that have struggled to get back on their feet will find themselves falling behind again.

Among those taking a tough stand against the shutdown were Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland Whip, and Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Florida. The shenanigans employed by the Republicans to strong arm the President and put this country back in crises will put this country in uproar. I hope Congress is ready for the outcome. Folks are sick and tired of the disrespect shown President Obama. This shutdown is not all about the Affordable Health Care, y’all know that, right? It’s about RACE! It’s about embarrassing the President, painting him as ineffective and sealing his ineffective in history as the first Black president. It’s about having an African American President making major decisions and some folks just can’t get over that. If Congress did not shut down the government down under George W. Bush, what’s the problem now? How soon do we forget! Under President Bush, the automobile industry went under; banks went under; and, we went under.

Why did we have to come to this point in history? This shutdown is so wrong. Are we going to sit back and allow the Tea Party Republicans to shut down our government because they lost at the polls? So, the Tea Party lost the election and now they want to hurt millions of hardworking people who keep this country running through their blood, sweat and tears. This is just their “gotcha” moment. It’s all aimed at the President. Congress rather shut down the government than to do what’s right by the people they represent. The American people has spoken during the last election and sent President Obama back for a second term. The majority has spoken. So, get over it and let’s move this country forward.

We put our representatives in office and we need to find a way to get them out. If Federal workers, parks, small businesses, etc., are going to be impacted by the shutdown, what if the rest of the country decides not to show up for work? Will that get Congress attention? What kind of message are we sending to other countries? Oh yes, we are the biggest and the baddest when it comes to war but we can’t sit down at the table of brotherhood with a Black President. Give me a break! You darn right, this writer is angry.
