On Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 84 Queen Street (popularly known as 82 Queen), the South Carolina Black Lawyers Association hosted a ceremonial unveiling of a South Carolina Historic Marker to commemorate the historic location of Justice Jonathan Jasper Wright's law office.

Justice Wright served as an associate justice on the Supreme Court of South Carolina from 1870 to 1877, and was the first person of African descent in the history of the United States of America to serve on a state's highest appellate court.

Following his resignation in 1877, he established his law office at 84 Queen Street, where he practiced and trained young lawyers in the law until his death in 1885. Justice Wright also served as Claflin College's Chair of Law.
