|A Timely Message Resonating Across the U.S.

Here's a story that's always timely: How do we keep going after life knocks us down?
It's easy to feel defeated by life events, and it happens in so many ways.
A job that's disliked. A relationship that goes bad. A career going nowhere. More bills than dollars. A tragedy that sidetracks. A failure that stings extra hard.
My life mission to remind people that if life is ever going to get better, following the status quo won't make it happen.
Going the extra mile will.
A a symbol of "going the extra mile", I first pedaled a bike ocean-to-ocean, interviewed 200 people identified as going the extra mile, and then personally gave $10,000 to the people whose stories most inspired me.
Then I created "Extra Mile Day" (November 1)...a day reminding people that we each have the capacity to create positive change in ourselves, our families, our organizations and our communities when we "go the extra mile." In the inaugural year (2009), 23 mayors participated. On November 1 this year, 400 mayors are expected to declare "Extra Mile Day."
Too often, people complain about their lives and do the same thing over and over. My life mission is to empower 1,000,000 people to think differently.
With 400 U.S. cities on-board and 18,608 organically developed Facebook fans, the "go the extra mile" message resonates. It's a message that creates change. It's a message that changes lives.
If the "extra mile" message fits in with a future story, please think about talking with an inspiring guy who doesn't just talk the extra mile message, I live it.
