Largest Independent Fitness Company in the Southeast Comes to Charleston
9/4/2013 2:20:34 PM

Raleigh, N.C. – Residents of The Holy City can now look forward to a revamped, modern fitness destination that will help keep them in shape year-round. O2 Fitness – recently named to the Inc. 5000 List of fastest-growing private companies in America for the fourth consecutive year – is continuing its aggressive expansion throughout the Southeast with the recent acquisition of East Shore Athletic Club in the Charleston Metro area.

East Shore Athletic Club is Charleston’s premier fitness provider with 12 convenient area locations. Currently, its facilities feature a variety of amenities, group fitness classes and services that vary by location. There are no plans to rebrand the clubs in the immediate future. Instead, O2 Fitness plans to use the money it would have spent rebranding the clubs into improving the user experience, investing more than $1 million in construction and improvements for its clubs in the coming months.

“We are thrilled to welcome Charleston’s East Shore Athletic Club into the O2 Fitness family,” said Michael D. Olander, Jr., CEO of O2 Fitness Clubs (and College of Charleston graduate). “We’re looking forward to serving the Charleston community and helping members reach and exceed their health and fitness goals. We believe in the potential of the Charleston market and look forward to continued growth there.”

Over the next four months, O2 Fitness will be making facility upgrades and improvements to all 24 of its locations, highlighting the company’s continued commitment to being the best operator in every market in which is has clubs. Upgrades include new equipment, new carpeting, fresh paint and plasma televisions throughout the clubs, as well as an expanded line-up of programming, including more group exercise classes, new bootcamps and functional training areas. East Shore Athletic Club members can also look forward to receiving two complimentary personal training sessions to help kick their training into high gear.

“East Shore Athletic Club is a well recognized and respected brand in Charleston and has been the recipient of numerous ‘best of’ awards and recognitions over the years. We look forward to building on this success,” added Olander.

O2 Fitness was founded by Olander in 2002. It began with a single location in Raleigh that expanded to 12 locations serving the entire Triangle in Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, Fuquay-Varina, and Wilmington, helping it achieve status as the largest privately owned independent fitness operator in North Carolina.
