On Saturday August 24, 2013 at the beautiful North Charleston Inn Ballroom, Charles A. Brown High Alumni Association, Inc. sponsored an appreciation dinner wherein a warm and affectionate welcome was given to our respected Alumni Teachers and their distinguished guests.

The event was well attended with approximately one hundred and fifty persons to include thirty seven alumni teachers, their guests and former students. We shared laughs, hugs and tears as we reminisced over the years we spent at Charles Albert Brown High School from 1962-1982. Although this small token of our appreciation could never compare to what they’ve done for us, we thanked them for all the hard work they put into making us the nurturing and stabilizing force of the city’s “EAST SIDE” and its surrounding communities.

They were serenaded with a beautiful rendition of “Wind Beneath Our Wings” by Carloma Washington Gordon, 1970 graduate. Our speaker for the evening was Dr. Vashti Dixon Washington, a 1971 graduate and current Superintendent of Jasper County School District. Dr. Washington spoke about how different education/the school system was when they taught and the way it is presently. She requested that we continue to fight for our children and their rights to public education.

After a delicious meal, we ended the evening by presenting our female Teachers with a red rose and all teachers with a plate embossed with the school’s mascot and a display stand. We then brought out a birthday cake to celebrated 101 years of life for Mrs. Marjorie Howard and 99 years of life for Mrs. Henrietta Clark.

Everyone stood as we sang our Alma Mater. We left with our hearts and minds filled with pleasant thoughts knowing that we will come together again.
