SUMMERVILLE, S. C. – This month, the College Board released the national results for its Advanced Placement (AP) Program Exams. Pinewood Preparatory School students achieved impressive results, with 32 juniors and seniors qualifying for AP Scholar designation.

Of this total, 16 were recognized as AP Scholars; seven as AP Scholars with Honor; nine as AP Scholars with Distinction; and two as National AP Scholars. Senior Megan Patterson, of Summerville, earned AP Scholar designation.

The AP Exam is administered to high school students after they have completed one year of AP -- or college level -- coursework in a particular subject area. It is a standardized exam that measures how well the student has mastered the content of the course. A successful score can earn a student college credit, resulting in advanced placement in college.

This year, Pinewood Prep celebrated the largest contingent of AP scholars since its participation in the program began.

This is the third year Pinewood has graduated two National AP Scholars simultaneously (the other years were 2006 and 2011). Additionally, Pinewood has enjoyed graduating at least one National AP Scholar every year for the past five years.

“We attribute this to both the strengthening of our AP program and the strong intellectual growth of our students,” said Head of School Steve Mandell.

“These are amazing accomplishments by any measure, and we are incredibly proud of our students.”
