The Rev. Abraham Murray Receives Doctor of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary

The Reverend Abraham Murray received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Erskine Theological Seminary during their One Hundred Seventy-Sixth Commencement exercises on May 18, 2013. His Dissertation is “A Biblical and Theological Approach for Evangelism Through the Fostering of Relationships”. 

Rev. Murray is the son of the late Deacon Isaac and Nellie Lancaster Murray. He was a once life-long resident of Charleston, SC who now makes his home on Lady’s Island. His early years were spent in the Liberty Hill section of North Charleston, SC. The late Rev. Dr. B. J. Whipper Sr. baptized him at a young age at the Charity Missionary Baptist Church. 

Rev. Murray is a graduate of Trident Technical College, Baptist College of Charleston, Cummins Memorial Theological Seminary, and Webster University. 

Rev. Murray is also the recipient of a Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from St Thomas Christian College. He is a nationally certified Grief Facilitator awaiting recertification, and a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has also received Chaplaincy training through the
Roper-St Francis Hospital Chaplaincy Program. 

The former pastor of the Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Murray was installed as Pastor of the historic Brick Baptist Church on St Helena Island, South Carolina in June 2001. He belongs to many organizations that includes the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., South Carolina Baptist E & M Convention, National Association of Christian Counselors, NAACP (life member), The Gospel Heritage Foundation, and the Beaufort County Ministerial Alliance (Vice-President). He has served as an Instructor for the Morris College School of Religion Extension Centers in Beaufort and Charleston, and the Cummins Memorial Theological Seminary in Summerville SC where he continues to serve on the Board of Trustees. 

Rev. Murray and his wife Vernell, a retired Registered Nurse, have been married for 36 years and have one daughter, Erica; and two grandsons, Kaishon and KaDeem. He is a family man who treasures the time spent in the company of his wife, daughter, and grandchildren. Above all, he is an anointed servant of the Lord who desires to do the Masters will.
