Charleston, SC– The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce announced at a business and civic leader’s reception that the Accelerate Greater Charleston (AGC) campaign has surpassed the $4 million fundraising goal. The five-year program seeks to identify resources and leverage regional capabilities to accelerate business growth; heighten education attainment and workforce readiness and present a strong regional advocacy and advancement plan.. The AGC campaign focuses on three specific deliverables that go above and beyond the Chamber’s current business plan in advancing our region:
1) Build and strengthen a talented workforce that is competitive ready for 21st Century employers
2) Ensure a friendly business environment while strengthening an entrepreneur ecosystem for the metro region
3) Build a “power house lobbying” program on issues important to members and the community at large
Bryan Derreberry, President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber, started the evening off by thanking investors for their commitment and joined Campaign Chairman Anita Zucker, Chair and CEO InterTech Group, Inc. to present year-end performance results from AGC’s talent, innovation and advocacy program platforms.
In support of the region’s talent development, AGC has successfully engaged Next Generation Consulting to prepare a community handprint, formed a talent council to act on the community handprint and will be developing a ten-year talent blueprint, has 52 business partners contributing to EDGE Academies in 11 area high schools and impacted 3,629 students by providing 21 EDGE Academy teachers with project-based learning training.
The innovation platform results reported included the creation of an Innovation Working Group to develop an asset map of entrepreneurial activity, a full-time World Trade Center Charleston Director and establishing a steering committee and development strategy for Metropolitan Export Plan (MEP), awarded by The Brookings Institution.
To keep the region moving forward by featuring a speed to market and implementation business environment, advocacy results reported included the advancement of four out of five Legislative Agenda items during 2012, three of five CMCC PAC endorsed candidates elected in November 2012 and successfully advocating for Charleston County Council to move I-526 completion forward.
