Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes Named Beta Mu Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. 2012-2013 Man of the Year

  On Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the 2013 Founder’s Day Celebration for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., the Beta Mu Sigma Chapter (Charleston’s Alumni Chapter) named Bro. Rev. Dr. Arthur Lee Holmes its 2012 Sigma Man of the Year. This award comes from within the chapter. The brothers nominate and then vote by secret ballots and the winner is announced at the Founder’s Day Program each year. The brother was gone beyond the call of the duty for the cause of the fraternity is recognized. This award is given to a brother who works hard and expects nothing in return.

  Bro. Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes is a native of Hollywood, South Carolina. He is the youngest of eight children born to the late Cephus and Julia Holmes. Brother Holmes has been a member of a Beta Mu Sigma Chapter since 1992. He currently serves as the secretary for the chapter.

  Bro. Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes is the pastor of Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church located in Hollywood, South Carolina (Petersfield Section). He also serves as the Chief Officer of Academics and Human Resources for Jasper County School District in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He has been in the educational profession since 1988 and has served as a classroom teacher, a teacher specialist, an assistant principal, and also a principal. He also started serving as a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church that same year.

  Bro. Rev. Dr. Holmes loves to read and also motivate people into making positive changes in their lives. He loves working for the chapter because it is an opportunity for him to continue with the brotherhood and service that the fraternity represents. When the award was presented Bro. Holmes said, “For the first time in a long time, I am lost for words.”

 He has a desire to move people forward and to help those who honestly want to make in their lives. He gives much credit to his deceased mother who instilled in him the desire to help others, the desire to please God, and the desire to make a difference as you pass along this way in life.

 He is married to Mrs. Souvillia Holmes and they are the proud parents of two children, one adopted son, and three adopted grandchildren.

 Bro. Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes lives by his philosophy of life, “It is nice to be important, but more important to be nice.
