Walker’s Legacy Launches Moms Who Enterprise: A Digital Program For Enterprising Moms of Color

In partnership with CitiBank, Walker’s Legacy Foundation will launch its ‘Moms Who Enterprise’ program on Saturday, May 9, 2020, in advance of Mother’s Day. Moms Who Enterprise is a free 8-week online program designed to develop financial and entrepreneurship skills for DMV residents, pregnant or parenting, currently looking to take their businesses to the next level.

“Walker’s Legacy Foundation was created in 2016 to help low-income, multicultural women fulfill their entrepreneurial destinies,” said Natalie Madeira Cofield, Founder & CEO of Walker’s Legacy Foundation. “Whether it be the beautician working out of her house, the mother maintaining her online boutique, or the caterer cooking from her home kitchen, Moms Who Enterprise seeks women with dynamic ideas and talents that have the potential to flourish as a business, yet may lack the resources, networks, and connections to formalize their enterprises.”

Single Mother Guide reported that of the more than 10 million low-income working families with children, 39 percent are headed by single working mothers—with 65 percent being single, working African American mothers. Moms Who Enterprise offers a tech-enabled financial literacy and entrepreneurship curriculum to aid income-constrained, single, or expectant mothers with entrepreneurial ambitions to gain the business skills needed to start and grow sustainable microenterprises.

Walker’s Legacy Foundation arranges a number of accommodations for mothers involved with the program, including an online curriculum, access to financial planning tools, entrepreneurial insight to begin self-empowerment, and additional resources that are accessible via the Walker’s Legacy Mobile App.

The program will launch virtually on Saturday, May 9, 2020, in advance of Mother’s Day and will culminate with a graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

This program is made possible by generous funding from the Citi Foundation. To partner with Walker’s Legacy or inquire about the Moms Who Enterprise program, contact Maria Guillen at [email protected].
