Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Sigma Public Education and Research (SPEAR) Foundation are teaming up to provide disadvantaged children nationwide new shoes as they head back to school.
The goal of the national drive, “Soles for Little Souls,” is to collect and distribute pairs of new shoes to children in every community where Sigma Gamma Rho chapters exist. Distribution will take place simultaneously nationwide by January 20, 2020.
The Kappa Rho Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc., based in Moncks Corner, SC, is leading the effort throughout the Lowcountry. They started collecting shoes in early December. The chapter has partnered with the Community Resource Center to host a shoe drive and giveaway for children ages 0-17.
New and gently-used shoes can be dropped off to the Community Resource Center North Charleston (3947 Whipper Barony Lane, North Charleston, SC 29405) and the Community Resource Center Summerville (116 W. 2nd N. Street, Summerville, SC 29483). The shoe giveaway will take place on MLK Day, Monday, January 20, 2020 from 3-6 PM at the Summerville location.
This past Saturday, Kappa Rho Sigma Alumnae Chapter (KRS) presented more than 100 pairs of shoes to the residents at the Callen-Lacey Center for Children (Callen-Lacey House at CYDC) in Moncks Corner, SC. KRS thanks Mellow & Play Café (9473 Hwy. 78, Ladson, SC 29456) and Essentials Coffee (117A Foxbank Plantation Blvd., Moncks Corner, SC 29461) for being drop-off locations for the Callen-Lacey Center for Children (Callen-Lacey House at CYDC) shoe drive.
