The Collegiate Gathering Returns to North Charleston November 1-2

Presented by The National Collegiate Gospel Choral Union, The Collegiate Gathering will take place on November 1-2, 2019 at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church (7396 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406).

In its fifth year, the concert series will begin on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Main Sanctuary with musical selections by college and university gospel choirs. Saturday morning and afternoon will include breakout sessions, an acoustic café, and general session available to college and community choir members and musicians. There will also be a college fair for high school students. For the first time this year, local high school gospel choirs have been invited and will be singing as a combined choir at the Saturday evening concert starting at 6:30 p.m. All collegiate gospel choirs will also sing together.

This year’s returning choirs are from Charleston Southern University, Claflin University, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Columbia College, Francis Marion University, Furman University, Lander University, South Carolina State University, University of South Carolina Columbia, University of South Carolina Upstate, Winthrop University, and Wofford University. The Collegiate Gathering welcomes choirs from Anderson University and Morris College this year. Youth and young adults are encouraged to attend the event.

The breakout sessions will include topics on stress management, leadership, liturgical dance, and personal development. The “Acoustic Café” is a time of fellowship for students to enjoy entertainment provided by their peers while dining together for lunch. The general session will be led by a local pastor.
