The League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area is holding candidate forums for multiple local races in advance of the November 5 municipal elections. The forums are nonpartisan, free, and open to the public. Attendees will be hearing from candidates for a variety of races, from mayors to town councils and water and sewer commissions. This is a chance for voters to meet their candidates and ask them questions.
Voter turnout is lowest in election years without statewide or national elections, even though local governments have a huge impact on issues in our communities. The League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area believes that providing opportunities to learn more about the candidates and issues will remove a barrier to voting in local elections.
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
For more information about the forums, contact Barbara Zia at 843-480-1823 or email@example.com.
The League of Women Voters is also excited to be offering a nonpartisan voting guide again this year. Voters can see what races are on their ballot, read about their candidates, check their voter registration, find polling places, and more at www.vote411.org.
