Charleston Black Theatre Presents “Southern Boys” as part of 2019 MOJA Arts Festival

Charleston Black Theatre (“CBT”) is celebrating their sixth season. This year, as part of the upcoming 2019 MOJA Arts Festival, CBT will present their first musical called “Southern Boys” written and directed by Kathy D. Harrison. The play focuses on the period during the great migration. The historical significance of this story describes the journey taken by many African Americans to find a better life.

Southern Boys represent the first generation, born-free Americans. They live with their families on the Mississippi Delta in the late 19th century. Through their songs (K.D. Harrison-songwriter), these boys portray the complexities of life as ‘sharecroppers’ and make a pact to leave their families and go north to find a life beyond the fields.

The production will be held at the newly renovated Cannon Street Arts Center located at 134 Cannon Street, Charleston, SC. Parking is available next to the theatre.

PERFORMANCE DETAILS: Fri.& Sat., October 4th & 5th at 7 pm; Sun., October 6 at 3 pm (Matinee). Place: Cannon Street Arts Center, 134 Cannon Street, Charleston, SC.
