BOXTOROW Polls: N.C. A&T validates why its top team in HBCU Football
The two-time defending North Carolina A&T Aggies have won eight-straight non-MEAC games against FCS or FBS competition dating back to 2017.
Elon was the latest victim.
With the Aggies defeating Elon 24-21 Saturday, N.C. A&T begin the season a unanimous No.1 in the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls. This makes the three of the last four years that the Aggies have started Week 1 as the No.1 team in HBCU football.
In the coaches poll, Bethune-Cookman came in at No.2, coming of a 36-15 win over Jackson State in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. The biggest surprise of the weekend was South Carolina State’s 28-13 win over national FCS-ranked Wofford. The Bulldogs are No. 5 in the poll.
The media poll was similar in that A&T, B-CU and Alcorn State were Nos. 1, 2, and 3. Unlike past Week 1 polls, seven of the teams won opening weekend games.
