Dr. Louis D. Whitesides has been named the executive director of SC State University’s 1890 Research and Extension Program. He assumed his duties on August 1st.
“I am honored and excited about the new opportunity to serve as the new executive director of this great organization,” said Whitesides. “Through innovative programs and problem-solving research, we will make a positive impact in the community. My plan is to continue to build upon the infrastructure already in place to improve the quality of life for the citizens of South Carolina.”
Whitesides takes on the new role after beginning his career in 1890 as an extension agent. He later became the program’s research administrator. He succeeds former executive director, Delbert T. Foster, who held the position since 2014.
“I know Dr. Whitesides will take the program to new heights,” said Foster. He is a natural leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the land-grant system to the organization. I have witnessed Dr. Whitesides’ stellar work on the local, state and national level. I look forward to seeing his vision for 1890 come to fruition.”
Whitesides, an Orangeburg native, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from SC State. He received a Master of Science in business management from Southern Wesleyan University and a Doctor of Business Administration in international business from the University of Sarasota.
