SC State Names New Director of Admissions and Recruitment

Stacey Sowell

Stacey Sowell has been named the new director of Admissions and Recruitment at South Carolina State University. Sowell, who previously served as director of admissions at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, assumed her duties on July 31.

Sowell emerged as the top pick following a nationwide search for a candidate whose experience and vision would reflect the university’s strategic direction aimed at bolstering enrollment, enhancing academic programs, elevating the university brand and achieving financial sustainability.

“Ms. Sowell’s leadership abilities and her extensive experience in recruitment and higher education administration align perfectly with our vision to move SC State University forward,” said university president James E. Clark.

Sowell has a total of 16 years of combined experience in enrollment management, student affairs, residence life, adjunct instructing and coaching.

A highly regarded higher education professional with comprehensive recruiting skills, she has a proven track record for growing student populations at a historically black college.

“My goal is to raise the standard of the recruitment process in efforts to attract the best and the brightest students here at SC State,” said Sowell. “What I want to bring to the area is a spirit of collaboration that will bring together the university’s key stakeholders, while providing superior customer service and professionalism. I’m looking forward to getting to know the students, faculty, staff and alumni.”
