National Technology Program for Girls launches in Charleston Tri-County

The Next IT Girl will officially launch a chapter in the Lowcountry August 3, 2019. Girls from all communities of Charleston are invited to attend a free kickoff technology workshop at Charleston Southern University 9200 University Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29406 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.

The one day workshop allows participants to be exposed to hardware, digital design, and many other industry-related concepts! The workshop is designed for 8 -14 year olds and will feature digital and hands-on learning opportunities. Registration includes; lunch, ‘IT Girl’ merchandise, and technology book.

The Next IT Girl Board Member and State House Representative JA Moore will help Charleston native and Founder Napiya Nubuya greet parents, volunteers, and students. The Next IT Girl, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that provides evidence based curriculums and a mentor network to support young women of color across the nation to discover, pursue, and succeed in technology-related careers. The organization engages women working in leading technology roles to mentor and motivate students to embrace Technology learning.

“Our mentors act as reflections of our young women, they are inspiring and successful role models who can uniquely relate to participants on a personal, gender, racial, and interest level,” says Napiya Nubuya, Founder.
