Ma Gloria’s Trinidad Restaurant and Catering’s Menu Built For Summer

Since opening in March, Ma Gloria’s Trinidad Restaurant and Catering has developed a gratified following that has made the Black woman-owned business a welcome addition to North Charleston. The family-run operation is now inviting those who love food, but haven’t yet tasted their offerings for themselves to rectify that situation this summer by dining at their location at 3313 Meeting Street Road.

Ma Gloria’s offers a welcoming atmosphere where the staff treats patrons like family. Caribbean vibes stirred by lively music and island décor are accompanied by Trini cuisine favorites such as doubles (flat fried dough filled with chickpea curry), roti (flatbread wrap usually eaten with sauce, meat and/or vegetables), mauby (fruit-based drink), plantains, pholourie (seasoned split pea fried dough served with tamarind sauce), beef pies, stewed chicken, saltfish, oxtails, and goat. Sandwiches (fried fish or chicken thigh and BBQ jerk chicken or pulled pork) and fried/sautéed seafood entrées are other menu highlights.

Vegan-friendly dishes aren’t neglected at Ma Gloria’s, however. Veggie burgers, rasta pasta (sautéed vegetables and penne pasta tossed with cilantro pesto sauce, topped with parmesan cheese), soy roti, tropical salad, and curry soy chunks with potato and white rice are an example of the options currently available.

Restaurant head Chef Roxann plans to add crab dumplings to her menu June 29. Coated in a homemade curry, blue crabs and dumplings are paired together for an exclusive dish unlike any other in the area. Chef Roxann and her cooks have been working several more items to add to the menu. More pastries and ice creams will be also be added to the list of desserts at Ma Gloria’s, which always has a cake of the day. 

Weekday lunch specials, good from 11 AM to 3 PM, include meals like curry chicken, stewed pork, soca fries (french fries layered with cheese sauce, bacon, pico de gallo, BBQ jerk chicken and white sauce), escovitch fish (pan-fried fish served with pickled vegetables) and chicken wings.

Ma Gloria’s is open Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM, Friday from 11 AM to 10 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM to 10 PM. From 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays, the restaurant presents a special breakfast & brunch menu for customers that includes waffles and bacon, eggs, grits, shark, accra (fritters), corn beef, fried chicken, coconut bake (breakfast biscuit-like bread), and veggie patties.
