This 90-minute class will help kick off your new adventure with a 1:9 instructor to student ratio and small group and partner work. This walk focuses on the incredibly diverse northeast end of Folly Island. Once the home of a Coast Guard station, this Heritage Preserve protects maritime forest, beach, dune and marsh habitats for wildlife and is a leader in number of bird species seen in SC. We hope to see songbirds, seabirds, and shorebirds such as Painted Bunting, Caspian Tern, Wilson’s Plover, and more.

Our lead course is for those that have been top rope climbing and are ready to take things to the next level. Learning to lead climb gives you access to more walls and better prepares you for outdoor climbing. In this course you will learn about the risks involved in lead climbing, risk management, lead climbing equipment, clipping techniques, lead belaying, and falling skills. Pre-requisites: Lead climbing is not a beginner skill set. We require a base of experience to take our lead course. You should have experience climbing regularly for several months, be top rope certified in our gym, and be able to climb 5.8 routes in our facility numerous times in a row.

Campers will be actively involved with CCPRC beach and waterpark lifeguards, learning the basics of aquatic rescue. This is a very physically demanding program that requires participation in running, ocean swimming, and lifeguarding drills. First-time participants must pass a swim test prior to the first day of the session. Swim tests are scheduled at Splash Island at 9 a.m. on May 18 and June 1, and at Splash Zone at 9 a.m. on May 25 and June 8. Minimum enrollment required two weeks prior to the first day.

Adventure Camp Palmetto Islands- Canoe & Disc Golf

Campers will learn the art of canoeing by practicing paddling techniques through fun games and instruction. Campers will learn about communication and cooperation in order to navigate their tandem canoes and will also practice rescue techniques. Lastly, a day trip to the beautiful tannin-rich blackwater of the Edisto River will put our skills to the test. We will also have some fun “rattling the chains” as we learn to play disc golf.  Campers will learn about equipment basics, throwing techniques, and how to work as a team while experiencing James Island County Park’s 18-hole course.

Advanced participants must have previously completed at least one Junior Lifeguard Program session. Swim tests will take place throughout the program.

Adventure Camp at James Island County Park – Mountain Bike/Fish

Campers will learn the necessary skills for the safe handling of a mountain bike while managing the trails around JICP and mastering the man-made obstacle course. The adventure will culminate with an overnight trip on Thursday to Harbison State Forest, testing their skills on beginner and more advanced mountain bike trails with an IMBA/BICP certified instructor, before returning Friday. Campers will also learn basics about fishing including the purposes behind the activity, biological processes, and conservation. Fledgling anglers will be taken to a local county fishing pier to get a taste of the saltwater action. All fishing equipment is provided.
