Lift Up Your Voice! Music Studio will present its semester closing voice recitals on two dates: Saturday, June 15 featuring Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced Intermediates and on Saturday, June 22 featuring Advanced Students. The theme of this year’s recitals is Memorable Songs from Popular Movies, and will feature the vocalists performing such greats as The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha, Home from Dreamgirls, Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music, The Rose from The Rose, Lean on Me from Lean On Me, Hallelujah from Shrek, and I Love The Lord from The Preacher’s Wife just to name a few.
Founder and Vocal Instructor Sandra Barnhardt states, “Because of the number of students and the varying degrees of musicianship, it became necessary to present them in two separate recitals, but each recital will feature outstanding voices performing some of the most well known favorite songs from popular movies. If you love movies, then you will most definitely enjoy an evening of your favorites being sung live!”
Also featured on the recitals will be outstanding guest vocalists who have previously studied with Barnhardt, and are now performing in professional venues. Taurus Huling, a 17 year old Bass-Baritone will perform on the June 15 recital has won numerous competitions and awards for his mature and resonant bass voice as he prepares to attend the University of Alabama to study Voice Performance and Cyber Technology. The June 22 guest soloist is Rina Lucas, Soprano, who has performed with the CSO Orchestra, Lowcountry Voices, at Piccolo Spoleto, and numerous other venues displaying her vocal expertise in several genres of music – classical, jazz, gospel, and spirituals.
The recitals will be held at Mt. Zion AME Church, 5 Glebe Street, Charleston, SC, hosted by Alphonso Brown, Director of Musical Activities, and Rev. Dr. Kylon Middleton, Senior Pastor.
