Lowcountry Local First, a nonprofit that cultivates an economy anchored in local ownership, recently welcomed Raquel Padgett and Steve Fletcher to the team. Raquel joins as the Good Enterprises Program Director, bringing a wealth of entrepreneurial passion and expertise to the table in order to lead the new Good Enterprises Initiative for the organization. Steve will serve as Community Manager, overseeing Local Works – the shared community work space that the organization launched in 2014 – along with continuing to connect, engage and expand the membership base of local-independent businesses across the Lowcountry.
Raquel is a graduate of South Carolina State University, with over 20 years of experience in marketing, public relations, and business consulting. She has worked with large local organizations such as Charleston County Government, Charleston County Parks & Recreation, the University of South Carolina and MUSC cementing her skills in fundraising, marketing, budgeting, and event management. In her new role as Good Enterprises Program Director, Raquel combines her love for community along with her extensive experience in business development to help underserved entrepreneurs achieve economic sustainability through business ownership.
A New Jersey native, Steve received his BA at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. He has worked in the private sector as a PR account executive and a content strategist, but also brings experience as a brewery tour guide, a door-to-door fundraiser, a bartender, and a traveling musician. In 2019, Steve graduated from the College of Charleston’s Master of Public Administration Program, where he cultivated a deep appreciation for the power and purpose of social entrepreneurship and nonprofit management.
