The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission and the Charleston yoga community will host the third annual Salute the Solstice Charleston Yoga Fest at James Island County Park. The festival will be held the day before this year’s summer solstice, on Thursday, June 20.

Throughout history, solstices and equinoxes have been sacred points of time to honor the flow of life on earth. The June 20 event is designed to bring the community together to salute the sun as it approaches its highest point in the sky. Guests will gather in the meadow of James Island County Park to move to the beat of live reggae performed by Mystic Vibrations and flow through a series of 108 sun salutations under the direction of some of the area’s leading yoga instructors. Music and yoga begin at 6 p.m.

This is a welcoming, family-friendly event open to all levels and abilities. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience meditation and practice sun salutations presented by our yoga studio partners. All levels and abilities are welcome.

“Salute the Solstice Yoga Fest is an opportunity to experience a truly unique mind body connection,” said Allison Foster, CCPRC’s health and wellness race, event and program manager. “The festival celebrates the great outdoors, community, family and friends. The pressures of everyday life will absolutely melt away. Even the most serious of personalities will find it hard to resist childlike awe, smiles and laughter as they move to Mystic Vibration’s reggae beat and flow on their mats with leading yoga instructors. I can’t wait.”

Admission is $25 in advance, or $30 on site, and includes yoga class and a swag bag. Kids 12 and under are free, and will be able to take part in a kids yoga class held concurrently. Ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration ends June 20 at 2 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for June 27.

Dogs are not permitted. Event t-shirts will be available for purchase online or at the event, through yoga partners. Proceeds from t-shirt sales will benefit the Surfers Healing and We Are Family.
