Celebrating its 30th year, this five-race series includes a .3-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5K run. Salute the Solstice Charleston Yoga Fest

The Summer Solstice is a time for us to come back to balance and thrive in the joys of life. As the sun rises to the highest point in the sky, Charleston will gather to salute the solstice, celebrating our connection and the light that is within each of us. This gathering is an opportunity to practice with teachers from Charleston’s leading yoga studios. Experience meditation, 108 Sun Salutations, safe hands-on adjustments, and live music by reggae sensation, Mystic Vibrations. Salute the Solstice Charleston Yoga Fest is open to all levels and abilities, and admission includes yoga class and swag bag. T-shirts are not included and may be purchased from yoga community partners. Yoga and live music begin at 6 pm. A kid’s yoga class will be offered concurrently.

There’s a lot to learn about climbing; getting your footing, learning the lingo, and starting out can be intimidating. But it doesn’t have to be. In this class, you’ll receive expert instruction on the basics of climbing, the opportunity to meet and learn with other new climbers, and an overview of our facility. This 90-minute class will help kick off your new adventure with a 1:9 instructor to student ratio and small group and partner work. Instruction takes place on both ropes and boulders, and the class includes gear rental, too!

Lighthouse Inlet Bird Walk

This walk focuses on the incredibly diverse northeast end of Folly Island. Once the home of a Coast Guard station, this Heritage Preserve protects maritime forest, beach, dune and marsh habitats for wildlife and is a leader in number of bird species seen in SC. We hope to see songbirds, seabirds, and shorebirds such as Painted Bunting, Caspian Tern, Wilson’s Plover, and more.

Our lead course is for those that have been top rope climbing and are ready to take things to the next level. Learning to lead climb gives you access to more walls and better prepares you for outdoor climbing. In this course you will learn about the risks involved in lead climbing, risk management, lead climbing equipment, clipping techniques, lead belaying, and falling skills. Pre-requisites: Lead climbing is not a beginner skill set. We require a base of experience to take our lead course. You should have experience climbing regularly for several months, be top rope certified in our gym, and be able to climb 5.8 routes in our facility numerous times in a row.

Participants will become familiar with aquatic environments, its hazards, and the demands of the job of a lifeguard. Junior lifeguards will be actively involved with CCPRC beach and waterpark lifeguards, learning the basics of aquatic rescue. This is a very physically demanding program that requires participation in running, ocean swimming, and lifeguarding drills. Advanced participants must have previously completed at least one Junior Lifeguard Program session. Swim tests will take place throughout the program.

Young cyclists will be introduced to the proper handling and maintenance of a mountain bike. We will practice safe riding techniques initially on the flat trails around James Island County Park. We’ll then utilize our new knowledge and skills to ride some of Charleston’s local trail systems. Campers will also get to know the historic Pacific Island craft known as standup paddleboard. They will learn how to paddle properly and will be introduced to simple rescue techniques and safety protocols from a trained instructor.

Adventure Camp Palmetto Islands- Sea Kayak & Earth

Kayakers will learn the graceful operation and control of a sea kayak on the sparkling lake at James Island County Park. Trained camp staff will provide instruction in proper paddling techniques, wet exits, and kayak rescues. After obtaining confidence and comfort on the lake, training will culminate in a day paddle in one of our beautiful Charleston-area waterways. Spending so much time outdoors, it only makes sense that we learn about the environment in which we are having fun. As Earth Rangers, we’ll dig deeper into the flora and fauna of Charleston to gain a better understanding of the natural world around us.
