The Cane Bay High School’s Cobra Chorale and Ladies Honors Choir traveled to Laurens, South Carolina to perform at the Palmetto State Choral Championships last month. The choirs competed against 20 of the best choirs from across South Carolina and both the Chorale and Ladies Honors Choir earned straight Superior Ratings.
Additionally, the Ladies Honors Choir earned 1st place in the Division 5 Women’s Choir Category and were 2nd overall in Division 5. Ladies Honors Choir placed 5th overall, regardless of class and were the top Treble ensemble at the festival earning the Treble Choir State Championship for the 2nd year in a row.
Cobra Chorale earned 1st place in the Division 6 Mixed Choir Category and 1st Overall in Division 6. Division 6 is the highest division in which a choir may compete, performing the most difficult choral literature composed for choirs.
Cobra Chorale was named the GRAND CHAMPION of the festival making them the 2019 Palmetto State Choral Champions. This marks their 2nd State Championship. (2016 4A Champions, 2019 PSCC State Champions).
“All of the students represented our school and community well all day,” said Cane Bay High Director of Choirs William Bennett. “We are extremely proud of the work of our students and their achievements. They competed against the best of the best. We have a tremendous amount of respect for the work of all the choirs who participated, and to come out on top is an incredible honor for our choral program.”
This is in addition to our performances at the SC ACDA Conference and the SCMEA conference, and winning the Georgia Southern Invitational and the Treble choir Division at the Lander Choral festival. This places the Cane Bay Choirs as the best in the state for 2018-2019.
