Goose Creek High Wins Again at Mu Alpha History Bowl

The Mu Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. held its annual Black History Bowl Competition on the campus of the Citadel Saturday, February 16, 2019. The winner of the high school division was Goose Creek, who was led by returning senior Tyler Steigler. Team members were Tyler Steigler, Marcus Hermastyne, Jayla Bryant, Jerrell Alston and Treasure Taylor. The runner-up of the high school division was Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Mt. Moriah won the middle school division and was runner up in the elementary school division. The winner of the middle school division was Westview Middle School. St. Stephen Elementary was the winner of the elementary school division. The event committee was co-chaired by Anthony Jenkins and Marion Turner.
Theodore J. Coker and members of Mu Alpha have held the bowl annually since its start in 1981. It has now grown across the states of North and South Carolina as Omega chapters hold competitions as part of Black History Month. The Goose Creek team will now participate in a state competition to determine what South Carolina school will face the challenger from the state of North Carolina at the 74th Annual Meeting that will be held in Durham, North Carolina in May of this year.
