SC State Sweeps Long Jump Events, Earns Five Top 10s at VMI

South Carolina State swept the long jump events, totaled five top 10 finishes and had eight personal records at the two-day (Feb. 8-9) VMI Winter Relays, which concluded Saturday.

Orangeburg native Daniel Seawright won the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.28m (23-10.75 ft.), while Breana Tyler captured the women’s long jump with a personal record leap of 5.78m (18-11.75 ft.).

Other top 10 performers for Coach Tim Langford’s teams included Tyler Jeffers, 6th in the 500 meters (1:07.1) and 8th in the 1000 meters (2:39.44), both personal records; and Malik Watson, 7th in the 200 meters (22.22), also a personal record.

Others setting personal records were Ariyonne Gillespie in the 60-meter hurdles (9.08), Jerdashia Scott in the women’s 800 meters (2:45.30), Kareem Hammond in the 200 meters (22.37), and Marquis Lynch in the 1000 meters (2:44.07).
