Lowcountry Students for Political Action to Hold Gun Reform Rally at State House

Lowcountry Students for Political Action have announced a demonstration in support of Senate Bill 154 at the South Carolina State House January 31 at 11AM. Students and activists from across the state will gather in Columbia to demand that members of the Senate Judiciary Committee vote to move bill 154 to the Senate floor.

Bill 154, if passed, would close the Charleston Loophole by extending the delay period to buy a gun from three days to five days which gives the FBI more time to conduct background checks on each individual attempting to purchase a weapon. This loophole allowed for Dylann Roof to buy the handgun that he used in the Mother Emanuel AME shooting in Charleston back in 2015 because the FBI did not complete his background check in time.

This reform is necessary and common-sense which is why the members of LSPA have decided to hold this demonstration. Attendees are asked to wear orange. If there are people who wish to support the demonstration but cannot attend, they are encouraged to contact their state representative and senator and ask them to support 154.
