Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes Elected President of the Edisto Island Ministerial Alliance

Reverend Dr. Arthur Holmes

Reverend Dr. Arthur Holmes, a native of Hollywood, South Carolina, was recently elected by the members of the Edisto Island Ministerial Alliance (EIMA) to serve as president for the next term.

EIMA serves about 18 churches and several organizations on the island and is made up of a dedicated group of hard working ministers who believe in working beyond the walls of the church and doing it with a caring spirit. The ministry of EIMA is to be supportive and caring of each and every member of the island.

The alliance gathers together twice a year for Ecumenical Services. Those times are held once in November for the pre-Thanksgiving service where they come together as an island and show their gratitude for the great things God has done in their individual congregations as well as the alliance as a whole. The other Ecumenical Service is held every Easter Sunday morning on Edisto Beach where we all gather to praise God as the sun rises. Attendance is always overwhelming and the people come to hear the “good news” about the “Risen Savior.”

Holmes is the proud pastor of Allen AME Church located at 8060 Botany Bay Road on Edisto Island. He just completed his first year as the pastor of Allen however, he is in his 31st year of serving as an ordained minister (Itinerant Elder) in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Holmes is humbled to have been elected to led this distinguished and dedicated group of men and women of God whose passion is to live Christ in all that we do and say. Holmes is married to Souvillia C. Rice-Holmes and they are the proud parents of all adult children: Megan. Julius and Irving (Felecia). Holmes is also a retired public school educator however, he returned to the profession last year in order to still be an asset to children. When asked what made him do this he replied, “I just felt like I had more to offer and I want to please God to the fullest.”

Holmes holds several degrees and obtained was his Doctorate of Ministry in December 2017. He is a lifelong learner, a lover of the Word, a lover of God’s people and a true believer that with Christ all things are possible.

Congratulations to Reverend Dr. Arthur Holmes. We know that God will use him and his talents to move the alliance to the next level.

Rev. Dr. Arthur Holmes is the right person to lead the Edisto Ministerial Alliance. It’s good to come together with all of the churches on Edisto Island to worship, fellowship and to do some good things in the community. The alliance is comprised of many different denominations and we come together as one body in Christ.
