Charleston County Extends Comment Period for Two West Ashley Projects

Charleston County Government will extend the comment period for both the SC 7 and SC 171 Intersection Improvements project and the Glenn McConnell Parkway Widening project through January 31, 2019. The original comment periods were scheduled to end in early January. Based on public feedback, more time is now available for residents to study the alternatives.

SC 7 and 171 Intersection Improvements Project

·  Located in West Ashley, the intersection of SC 7 (Sam Rittenberg Blvd.) and SC 171 (Old Towne Rd.) is identified as a critical road improvement project for Charleston County and the City of Charleston. Improvements to the intersection are highlighted in the City’s West Ashley Revitalization Plan and the location was designated as one of the study’s priority project areas.

Glenn McConnell Parkway Widening Project

·  The purpose of the project is to relieve traffic congestion by increasing roadway capacity within the existing right-of-way limits of Glenn McConnell Parkway between Bees Ferry Road and Magwood Drive. The goal is to widen Glenn McConnell Parkway from two to three lanes in each direction, and provide a new multi-use pathway within the project limits that will allow safe pedestrian access across the CSX railway.
