As far as Charleston events go, this one is by far the cheesiest. The 9th Annual Charleston Mac Off is set for Saturday, December 1st from 11am until 4pm. This year’s event will take place at The Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Stadium and features popular Lowcountry restaurants facing off to win the title of “Best Mac & Cheese in Charleston.”
The family-friendly Charleston Mac Off pays tribute to the melt-in-your-mouth comfort food celebrating both its Southern roots and its versatility. Competing chefs will showcase their version of the classic playing with different cheeses, pasta shapes, toppings, and cooking methods. In the end, there will be one winner in the People’s Choice category and one winner in the Critic’s Choice category.
In addition to decadent Mac & Cheese dishes, the Mac Off includes a large children’s area, a Christmas artisan market, kitchen demos from Berlin’s Restaurant Supply, live music from The Black Diamond Band, plus beer, wine, and cocktails. Event-goers are welcome to bring a chair or towel to sit on. No pets or coolers are allowed and purchases inside the event are cash only.
General admission tickets are available for $17.50 online and include entry to the event plus free parking. Children 10 and under gain free admission. VIP tickets are available for $125 and include VIP parking, open bar, private restrooms, a beer garden, and a bourbon and cigar bar.
