Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) is a native of St. Helena Island, SC. She has worked for almost four decades to uplift her community and to insure the continuation and accurate representation of Gullah/Geechee culture worldwide. Her work and living have not been in vain because it has been recognized in her home state. The South Carolina Coalition for Voter Participation presented Queen Quet with the Rev. Dr. BJ Whipper Sr. Community Service Award on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at a banquet in Charleston, SC. This annual award is presented to one person that exemplifies unselfish community work. Queen Quet received this honor for her contributions to South Carolina spiritually, economically, and politically.
The SCCVP was charted in 1991 as an outgrowth of the Charleston County Coalition for Black Voter Participation that took place in 1988. It is now South Carolina’s largest non-partisan, non-profit, faith-based organization that stresses political education. They have witnessed Queen Quet’s ability to educated and empower people worldwide and wanted her to know that her work is appreciated.
