Lt. Col. Kevin C. Hamilton of the U.S. Army Takes Oath of Office for Colonel

Lt. Col. Kevin C. Hamilton

Lt. Col. Kevin C. Hamilton of the U.S. Army recently took the oath of office for colonel.

Born in Charleston, he is the son of Charles and the late Marguerite J. Hamilton.

He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from South Carolina State University, graduating as a distinguished military graduate and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Medical Service Corps in May 1996.

He holds a master’s degree in Homeland Security from American Military University and will receive his second master’s degree in Strategic Military Studies from the Senior Service College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

His previous assignments include Hospital Administrator for Winn Army Community Hospital, platoon leader, Headquarters and Headquarter Company, 2/7 Infantry Battalion; Medical Plans/Operations Officer for the Division Medical Operations Center, Division Support Command, Fort Stewart, Georgia.  From 2000 to 2002, Hamilton was selected as a small group instructor for the Officer Basic Course, B. Company, Academy Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Hamilton commanded the 690th Medical Company, Ground Ambulance, 56th Medical Evacuation Battalion, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  During his command, Hamilton deployed the unit to Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003 to 2004.  From 2004 to 2007, Hamilton served with the Fifth United States Army Headquarters, Fort Sam Houston, Texas in the Civil Support Division.

From 2007 to 2008, he was selected to attend to the resident Command and General Staff College, Intermediate Level Education Course.  While there Hamilton also completed his first Masters of Homeland Security with a concentration in Disaster Management from American Military University.

In 2008, he served as the Operations Officer for the 47th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) of which he served his second tour in Iraq with.  From 2010 to 2011, he served as the CSH Executive Officer.  From 2011 to 2013, Hamilton served as the Joint Regional Medical Planner for FEMA Regions VIII through X.

From 2013 to 2017, he was assigned to the Office of the Surgeon General as the Chief of Current Operations, Chief of Global Health and the Executive Officer for the Deputy Chief of Staff G-3/5/7.

Hamilton is currently serving a two-year tour in South Korea as the 65th Medical Brigade Executive Officer and the Medical Activity-Korea Chief of Staff.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War of Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Field Medical Badge and Parachutist Badge.

Hamilton is married to Patrice Mitchell Hamilton of Charleston. They have twin sons, Kevin Jr. and Kraig, 18 (both sons will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall).
