Scholarships Awarded To MUSC Students

At their March 11 Annual Doctor’s Day Program the ACCMDPA awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship to Ms. Ka’La D. Drayton and Mr. Austin T. Merritt, minority students at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Ms. Drayton is from North Charleston, SC and is enrolled in the College of Medicine. Mr. Merritt is enrolled in the College of Pharmacy and is from Tallahassee, FL.

The ACCMDPA has been awarding scholarships to deserving minority students at MUSC for the past 30 years. The members of the ACCMDP are the spouses of the parent organization, the Charleston County Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association, an affiliate of the state level, the Palmetto, Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association which was established over 100 years ago.

Since, 1986, the Auxiliary has addressed many health care and health care related issues facing the African-American community to include, but limited to scholarships for students entering the health care field, food for the needy, sponsorship of activities for a local day care center, a health and wellness fair and other activities that promote the interaction of families within the African-American medical community.
