Baptist Hill High School has always maintained a low profile in the sports arena even though they are the Regional Lower State Football champions.  Prior to this accomplishment, they were the Regional 4A football Champions.  On November 24, 2017, the team defended their title for the Lower State Championship and the rest is history.  The team managed to win a decisive victory over C.E. Murray High School, the 2015 State Champions.  Coach Brown and his team didn’t look back as they played in Columbia before a record crowd. Lamar High School, a team with a 14-0 record, who had won previous State Championships, knew they had a fierce contender and had to play their best  in order to walk away with the title.

Coach Brown and his team lost a bitter fight for the title, but played their best and walked away with a sense of victory that Baptist Hill had never played for a State Title before in the history of the school. Additionally, no school in Charleston had advanced to a Lower State Championship game since 1992 and had not played for a State title since 1982.

For all of their hard work and determination, the team was recognized in various venues. Among those was a luncheon sponsored by the following members of the Baptist Hill Alumni Association: Ms. Martha Davis, MS. Beulah Smith. Mr. Coleman Jenkins, Rev. John Alston, Mr. J. C. Miller, Ms. Sarah Ferron Johnson, Mr. David Edwards, Ms. Ella Dean Jackson, Rep. Robert Brown. Dr. Helen Frazier, Constituent Board Member and the National Action Network. The team, Coach Brown and his staff enjoyed a special luncheon at Golden Corral in North Charleston.
