4th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival Celebrates Family, Culture and the Youth

A highlight of the 4th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival is the Family Jazz Day featuring many of Charleston’s up and coming youth artists and teachers. The annual festival brings together hundreds of jazz lovers from across South Carolina for four days of jazz performances by award-winning artists. The festival will take place January 18 – 21, 2018, with events at multiple locations throughout downtown Charleston, including the Charleston Music Hall, Gaillard Center, College of Charleston Sottile Theatre, Renaissance Hotel Ballroom, Prohibition, and Barsa Tapas Lounge and Bar.

The final day of the festival is devoted to community and youth music programs with performances by the School of The Arts Jazz Band, the Charleston All Star Youth Jazz Orchestra, and the Ken Foberg Quartet featuring Alva Anderson at the College of Charleston Sottile Theatre from 3:00pm – 5:30pm.

“The 4th Annual Charleston Jazz Festival provides a stage for the many talented youth musicians who are being developed in our high schools right now,” said Stephan Berry, director of the Charleston All-Star Youth Orchestra.  “The students need to learn quickly, practice hard, and bring out their best in front of a large jazz festival audience. It’s a great experience for everyone.”

All three concerts are part of the final day of the festival on January 21 at the College of Charleston Sottile Theatre beginning at 3:00pm. Admission is FREE for children and students ages 18 and under, adults are $5.
