The Cooper River Bridge Run (CRBR) is teaming up with the City of Charleston to host the Charleston Health & Wellness Expo on Wednesday, January 10 through Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 10am–7pm at the Charleston Gaillard Center (90 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401). This is a free two-day event to promote health and wellness to the entire Charleston community.
“The Expo will be even bigger this year than last year,” said Janis Newton, director of the MUSC Wellness Center. “It makes a statement for Charleston, that it’s not only about tourism, beauty and history but that we care about the health of our community.”
Representatives from MUSC and other facilities will provide free programs, health services and information on a variety of topics to attendees. Some of the programs include cooking lessons and dieting demos, exercise guidance, weight management, oral health for all ages, a sleep center, and massages. There will be flu shots and health tests and services including BMI, glucose, blood pressure, bone density, digestive/gastro/bariatric, sleep and anxiety, and cancer prevention and screenings. Plus, attendees will be able to learn all they need to know about colonoscopies and Crohn’s disease, pancreatic cancer, incontinence and esophageal diseases.
Cooper River Bridge Run Race Director Julian Smith said, “January, right before the Charleston Marathon, is the perfect time to inform the community of the necessary steps needed to live a healthy lifestyle, and to connect the community with the appropriate services. We hope the community takes advantage of this incredible opportunity to kick start 2018 with a healthy outlook.”
