BOXTOROW Polls: North Carolina A&T remains No. 1; split with coaches, unanimous with media

(boxtorow.com) North Carolina A&T continues to win and continues to distance itself from the other teams in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls.

BOXTOROW National Player of the Week: North Carolina A&T Defensive Back Franklin Mac McCain, III, 5-11, 174, R-Fr., Greensboro, N.C (left). Recorded three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns including a 100-yarder as the Aggies defeated Morgan State 49-17.

In the coaches poll, the Aggies received 18 of the 20 first place votes, with the other two votes going to No. 2 Grambling. It was the most first place votes any team has received so far this season. No. 3 North Carolina Central and No. 5 Howard both won last week – the Eagles defeating South Carolina State 33-28 and the Bison defeating Bethune-Cookman 26-24.

Tennessee State was the only top five team from last week that lost, falling to OVC rival UT-Martin 31-16 and dropped two spots to No. 4 in this week’s poll.

Meanwhile in the media poll, A&T received all of the first place votes. Just like in the coaches poll, A&T was followed by Grambling, North Carolina Central and Tennessee State. Bowie State maintained its No. 5 position. Of note, Florida A&M entered the top 10 for the first time in recent memory after evening its record at 2-2 after a 20-14 victory over Savannah State.
