BOXTOROW Polls: North Carolina A&T remains No. 1

(boxtorow.com) North Carolina A&T remained No. 1 in both the BOXTOROW Coaches and Media Polls for the second straight week.

In the coaches poll, the Aggies received 14 of 19 first-place votes and finished 12 points ahead of second place Tennessee State who received three first-place votes. No. 3 Grambling and No. 4 North Carolina Central each moved up one spot from last week and despite its 38-31 loss to FBS opponent Kent State, Howard moved up one spot and rounds out the top five. It is the first time in the nine-year history of the coaches poll that Howard has been ranked in the top five.

Bethune-Cookman made the biggest increase, rising three spots to No. 6 this week after defeating Southeastern Louisiana 28-23.

BOXTOROW National Player of the Week: Bethune-Cookman Quarterback Larry Brihm 5-11, 209, r-Sr., Delray Beach, Fla. Completed 25-of-39 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for another touchdown in the Wildcats 28-23 victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

In the media poll, A&T received a majority of the first-place votes (7) with No .2 Tennessee State receiving two first-place votes and No. 3 Grambling receiving two. Bowie State (Winston-Salem State) and Albany State (Tuskegee) are both coming off non-conference wins against conference opponents and both enter the top 10 for the first time this year at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.
