Friends will put Hundreds of Books in Charleston County Classrooms

Charleston County public school teachers will be the beneficiaries, thanks to a grant received by the Charleston Friends of the Library. The Renee B. Fisher Foundation has provided funds for teachers in high-need (Title 1) Charleston County public schools to purchase classroom.

Through this grant, 60 teachers will receive $50.00 vouchers to buy books at the Friends’ 36th annual That BIG Book Sale event October 13- 15 at the Omar Shrine Auditorium, Mt. Pleasant. Prices start at $1.00 for paperbacks and $3.00 for hardback books. Children’s books start at just 50 cents. This can easily mean teachers can purchase 50 to 100 books for their classrooms!

“Teachers across the country are doing heroic work, often without the resources they need,” said Brittany Mathis, Executive Director of the Charleston Friends of the Library. “We’ve watched them come into our sales on many occasions using their own money to buy books and classroom materials each year. This grant allows us to show our appreciation for the crucial work that they do, and to ensure the success of our students.”

Teachers who are interested in receiving a voucher for the October book event should contact Brittany Mathis at director@charlestonlibraryfriends.org.
