Lowcountry Teen Wins Regional Talent Hunt Competition

Greensboro, NC – Lowcountry high school student, Wennie A. Rodriguez was named winner of the Talent Hunt competition at the 72nd Annual District Meeting of The Mighty Sixth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. this past Friday.

Rodriguez, a ninth grader at South Carolina Connections Academy, was the first place winner of the local Talent Hunt competition sponsored by the Mu Alpha Chapter.

The win secured Rodriguez the opportunity to represent Mu Alpha at the district competition that included winners from the respective chapters across North and South Carolina. Along with her first place trophy, Rodriguez received a check in the amount of $2,000 and she will now represent Mu Alpha and The Mighty Sixth District at the fraternity’s 2017 International Leadership Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio in August. Rodriquez, petite in stature, marched to the piano a delivered her competition-winning rendition of Chopin’s Etude Op. 25 No. 12.

Rodriguez will participate in a Talent Hunt showcase that will feature the various district level winners from all of the districts comprised within the continental United States and the international district and will receive and additional $1,000 from the international office of the fraternity.
