The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs has announced details for the 2017 seasons of the Charleston Farmers Market and West Ashley Farmers Market. The Charleston Farmers Market returns to Marion Square Saturdays, April 8 to Nov. 25, 2017, with market hours of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each week. Additional market dates, including the popular Holiday Markets at Marion Square presented as part of Holiday Magic in Historic Charleston, will be announced later this year.
The West Ashley Farmers Market will resume activity at Ackerman Park, following a successful pilot season in autumn 2016, with an initial schedule of Wednesday afternoon markets running April 19 to Oct. 4, 2017, with market hours starting at 3 p.m. each week (closing time is anticipated as 7 p.m., but may vary based on actual time of sunset). Information about additional market dates and related special events will be announced as the market season proceeds.
Applications for both markets will be available Wednesday, Feb. 1 and must be submitted by Wednesday, Feb. 15, in order to be considered for the upcoming season. The application process is competitive and priority is given to local farmers and growers. Applications will be made available online at CharlestonArts.org or in person at the Office of Cultural Affairs open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. located at 75 Calhoun Street, Suite 3800. For more information, you can reach the Office of Cultural Affairs at 843-724-7305.
The Charleston Farmers Market and West Ashley Farmers Market—produced by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in cooperation with the City of Charleston Parks Department—are dedicated to the support and advocacy of local farmers and growers. The markets feature fresh seasonal produce and prepared foods from area vendors who source ingredients from nearby farms.
