2017 GOOSE CREEK DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CELEBRATION will be held at 4 PM Sunday January 8, 2017 at Goose Creek H.S. (1137 Redbank Rd; Goose Creek, SC 29445) To celebrate the life, legacy, and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme for 2017 is “Honoring the Dream Today with Love, Peace, and Unity.” Dr. King said, “We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive.” King also said, “He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. changed the world with his uncompromising vision of equality, justice, and peace. To celebrate the life and legacy of this American inspiration, the Goose Creek community will have a commemoration program 4PM Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Goose Creek High School.
The event is free and every one of all ages and ethnic backgrounds is invited and encouraged to attend. Students from the Berkeley Center for the Arts and the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Oratorical Ministry will render performances in honor of Dr. King. County and state elected officials have been invited to attend. City of Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler will welcome attendees and talk about why the community comes together for this event.
The Goose Creek NAACP, Goose Creek Clergy Association and the Berkeley County School District are working together to present this program.
The Reverend Kelly Spann, a pastor, retired teacher, and member of the Berkeley County School Board will be the keynote speaker. Reverend Spann is pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Georgetown.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be an Ordained Baptist Minister.
• Must know Baptist doctrine and be willing to follow it.
• Must be interested in the spiritual and intellectual growth of the church.
• Must be Mission-minded and be a motivator.
• Must be available ALL Sundays of the month.
• Must attend all church activities (ie. Sunday School, Prayer Service, and teach Bible
Study).
• Must have the ability to work with all age groups and be diversity-minded.
• Must be family and community-oriented.
• Must possess public speaking skills and be strong in evangelism.
• Must practice confidentiality and conflict resolution through counseling.
• Must possess administrative, leadership, computer, and interactive skills.
• Must be a good role model of moral and ethical conduct.
• Must possess at least five (5) years of Baptist ministerial experience and training from
workshops, conferences, Seminary, conventions, and other institutions of higher learn
ing, etc. (Theological Degree preferred; not required)
• Must be able to supply a minimum of 3 references from: The Moderator of his/her current Association, his/her current or former Pastor (required), other associate ministers, and laypersons that can properly vouch for character and pastoral performance.
