Brace Yourself For Change!!

One of my favorite recording artists back in the day was Sam Cooke. As the euphoria of Christmas winds down, I have been thinking about 2017 and the changes it will bring. Changes are inevitable but how will changes under the new administration change your life?

The newly elected Commander-In-Chief and I don’t see eye to eye on many issues facing this country. Trump doesn’t believe in global warming. I do. I spent Christmas in Houston and I was not prepared for the summer-like weather. It was high seventies my entire stay.

The weather is just the tip of my concerns. Housing, banking institutions, predatory lenders. Disproportionate incarceration of blacks, unwarranted killing of black males by police officers, affordable health care and education. Education is a major concern for me.

While the US is making small strides in education and choices, minority children are still lagging far behind in technology . Students choosing to attend technical school and college should receive unencumbered financial assistance for college.

The present system is bias and African-American students are saddled with student loans that does not seem to go away. Companies are not paying comparable wages to graduates, so minority graduates find themselves struggling to repay student loans with very little left over to live independently. This is a travesty since the money wasted on government expenditures alone is enough to send every child in America to college free.

If America is to remain the “Super Power” it holds out to be and not the bully, more money needs to be spent on education and not building jails to keep Blacks in and walls to keep immigrants out. Don’t y’all fall for Trump’s campaign slogan of “making America great again”. If y’all can read and write, then y’all can figure that one out for yourselves.

President-elect Trump has aligned himself with some of this country’s most powerful millionaires and billionaires. Check out his Cabinet choices. So, what are the President Elect’s plans for ordinary people like me who have worked their butts off? What about ordinary folks who helped build this country and never asked for a handout?

As I face the twilight years of my life, I find there is no longer a middle class. In America, you are either rich or poor. There is no in between. The rich will continue to get richer under the new administration and the poor poorer. Y’all haven’t seen any poor appointed to a Cabinet position as of yet?

Do not sit back or git back during the next four years but hit back every time the ball comes rolling your way. Trump is a shrewd businessman. You can’t sleep on his watch. Stay awake!! You have worked too hard, too long and have done no wrong. “Don’t you let nobody turn you ‘round”.
