Do you think that the North Charleston Police Department has taken appropriate steps towards reform a year after the Walter Scott shooting?
Gun Reform Hearing Draws Large Crowd
10/5/2016 5:28:10 PM

A crowd of several hundred gun reform supporters gathered at the College of Charleston’s Stern Center ballroom to let their voices be heard regarding gun reform in South Carolina.

Many of the attendees testified before the sub-committee on hand to voice their displeasure of current gun laws.

A few months after the shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church, Sen. Marlon Kimpson filed sweeping gun reform legislation, including expanding the background check period from three days until whenever the check is complete.

At the beginning of last year’s session Sen. Kimpson went to work immediately, calling on the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman to grant hearings related to the proposed legislation.  His efforts were thwarted by the gun-friendly Committee leadership, so Kimpson began blocking legislation that was important to the leadership.

After filibustering one bill, Kimpson reached an agreement with the Chair of Senate Judiciary to have hearings on the background check bill.

Gun reform in South Carolina as well as the entire country will be a hot button issue with the general election just around the corner. More efforts are soon to come to shed light on this issue and make improvements in the process of allowing gun ownership to responsible individuals.

Considering 17 months of consecutive record breaking gun sales, I highly doubt that several hundred people showed up to support gun reform. If politicians really wanted to save lives, they would ban gun free zones and promote conceal carry.
