Children, young adults and adults can attend hundreds of fun summer program and win amazing free prizes through Charleston County Public Library’s 2016 Summer Reading Program that runs through July 31.

Each year, thousands of area residents take part of the library’s Summer Reading program where they can win prizes from local attractions, sporting events, food coupons and gift cards … all rewards just for reading. The more they read, the more they can win.

Program events, prizes, reading lists and registration information is available at the library’s website – www.ccpl.org/SummerReading.

Summer Reading is a major event each year, all part of the library’s continuing efforts to promote literacy and reading for the whole family. It’s especially important to encourage students to read during the summer as studies show they can easily regress over the summer break, impacting their preparedness for entering school in the fall.

Hundreds of free programs are being offered at the library’s 16 branches, including magicians, plays, storytellers, science experiments, concerts and even activities with live animals.

As a sampling, some of the programs coming up soon include:
· Summer Reading Kick-off with DJ Luigi and Friends – Saturday, June 4 at 11 a.m., Otranto Road Regional
· Porkchop Productions Presents The Tortoise and the Hare – Tuesday, June 7 at 4 p.m., Mt. Pleasant Regional Library
· Imani Milele Children’s Choir from Uganda – Wednesday, June 8 at 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., Main Library
· Puppet Show by All Hands Productions – Billy Goats Gruff and Other Stuff - John’s Island Monday, June 13 at 2 p.m.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, Summer Reading prizes range from edible treats from McDonalds and Charleston Cooks to RiverDogs tickets, passes to Sky Zone Trampoling Park and Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s water parks plus gift cards for Starbucks, Home Depot and Amazon.
