SC State Fair Announces 2016 Scholarship Recipients

The South Carolina State Fair announces the 2016 “Ride of Your Life” Scholarship Recipients. Each year, the fair’s scholarship program awards $300,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in South Carolina.

The program provides each of the 50 selected recipients $1,500 per year for up to four years to be applied to post high school education or training at a South Carolina university, college or technical college.

“Every dollar spent at the fair helps support our mission to make higher education accessible for South Carolina residents,” said State Fair General Manager Gary Goodman. “We’re extremely proud of the impact we’ve made in the lives of our recipients and the communities they now serve.”

Scholarships are awarded based on applicants’ overall school performance and involvement, participation in extracurricular activities, communication skills and aptitude for completion of the application. Although it is not specifically a needs-based program, individual student need will be taken into consideration when applicable.

Since 1997, the State Fair has given over $3.5 million in community donations.

“We look forward to continuing this tradition of giving as we plan for the upcoming 2016 fair in October,” Goodman said.

The full list of recipients is available at www.SCStateFair.org.
