SC Bar offers free legal clinics for Elder Law Month

The SC Bar Pro Bono Program will sponsor six free legal clinics for senior citizens across the state in May to coincide with Elder Law Month. The schedule is as follows:

Columbia

  • May 12—Elder Law Issues, including long term care planning, insurance and Medicaid, presented by Thomas D. Klipatrick. The clinic will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lourie Center (1650 Park Cir., Columbia 29201).

  • May 17—Senior and Elder Law Issues, including mortgages, reverse mortgages, Medicare, Medicaid and scams, presented by Mitchell C. Payne. The clinic will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Richland Library Northeast Branch (7490 Parklane Rd., Columbia 29223).

Myrtle Beach

  • May 10—Elder Law Issues, including long term care planning, insurance and Medicaid, presented by Michael S. Large. The clinic will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Chapin Memorial Library (400 14th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach 29577).

Spartanburg

  • May 3—End of Life Issues, including healthcare power of attorney, living wills, DNR orders, power of attorney, funeral planning and cremation, presented by R. O’Neil Rabon Jr. The clinic will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pacolet Branch Library (390 W. Main St., Pacolet 29372).

  • May 17—End of Life Issues, including healthcare power of attorney, living wills, DNR orders, power of attorney, funeral planning and cremation, presented by Judy Ann Blackwell. The clinic will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Spartanburg County Library (151 S. Church St., Spartanburg 29306).

Clover

  • May 12—Senior Issues, including Medicare, Medicaid and long term care insurance, presented by Jamie L. Bell. The clinic will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Clover Nutrition Site (2244 Church St., Clover 29710).

These seminars are free for anyone who would like to attend. The format typically consists of an overview followed by a question and answer session. A schedule of other upcoming seminars throughout the state is available online at www.scbar.org/clinics.
